Have you read the story in the Australian regarding the suggestion to build a light rail system along the Kokoda Track.
The suggestion made by Roger Marchant is fanciful. He imagines hotels in Efogi and Isurava and thinks it wouldn't be so hard to build as it is only 100 kms. All that aside, Kokoda and visiting these sites is made special because we as Trekkers must endure some hardship to get there, to experience a little of what the diggers did in 1942.
That gives us a deeper understanding and makes The Kokoda experience transformative. We know more people would visit the place but the vigour of the story would be lost and then there would no purpose to visit at all. What do you think!
