The Kokoda Track is an Australian Icon, it is a pilgrimage for those that wish to honour our forefathers and the sacrifices they made for us in WWII. For those wanting to undertake this journey they must train for it, and they must train correctly for it. To be able to offer your clients professional advice and training about how best to prepare for Kokoda it is a unique selling point for yourself as a Personal Trainer. Your clients will be training regularly with you and by the end of the trek they will become advocates of your business and what you offer them.
Read on and find out how walking the Kokoda Track can transform your business from just another PT to one that sets goals for people, that organises epic events and becomes an important part in your clients lives.

Business Opportunity
Many PT's will run weekend challenges or month long weight loss and fitness challenges. They do these challenges in order to create a sense of community within their business, and they work very effectively.
Clients work together and support each other and under the guidance of their PT, by the end of the challenge there is a feeling of real comradery in the group. Training and completing the Kokoda Track together will take this community feeling to a whole other level and your business will be transformed. Participants will be dedicated to their training and walking the Track will becomes the ultimate physical and mental challenge for them. To go through this emotional and physical journey with you by their side every step of the way will create a loyalty that cannot be replicated. This is how Kokoda will transform your business. |
Create a NEW REVENUE stream for your business
Offering Kokoda to your clients will create new revenue streams. Let's assume you have 12 clients walk Kokoda with you. These are the areas in which you will receive extra revenue into your business:
|
Create Community
Kokoda creates a great sense of community within your business. We suggest organising weekend walks for your clients which will bring your group together. This is reinforced by special Kokoda training days and sessions, where clients will be training knowing they are all working together as a team to achieve the ultimate goal of walking the Kokoda Track. The culmination of all of this training is the actual walk across Kokoda. Spending 9 days together in the jungle, struggling together, encouraging each other and overcoming all obstacles together is an extremely bonding experience for you and your clients. Through the adversity the group will come back proud of what they have achieved and ready to tell everyone what a great trip they had.

Give your clients a GOAL for the year
Being a PT and Instructor, one of your main objectives is to find your client a motivating goal. Your client needs to find the motivation that will get them out of bed at 5:30am, the motivation that pushes them beyond what they believe they are capable of. What better goal to set than to walk the Kokoda Track. Trekking 96 kilometers of up and down terrain, with over 6000 meters in ascent and 6000 meters in descent, the Kokoda Track is the ultimate challenge and goal for your clients. Most PT's that work with us will run a minimum 12 week training schedule to get their clients Track fit. This is a great motivating force for clients and a great way to keep them working out through the mid year (in the southern states this is often a quieter period for PT's).

Become an EXPERT on Kokoda
Once you have completed your first Kokoda trek, you will become known as a "Kokoda Expert". You will have learnt so much from your first trek, that you will be able to implement changes to your next one, perfecting the art of getting people ready for the Track. You will be surprised how fast word will spread that you train clients and take them to Kokoda and that you are the trainer that people should trek Kokoda with. Kokoda will transform your offering to clients and people will come to you for advice. Kokoda will keep bringing people to you year after year and some of your clients may want to go a second time.

What is Involved?
So what is Kokoda all about? Kokoda is a 96km trail running over the Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea. It runs from the village of Kokoda to Owers' Corner which is approximately 2 hours drive from Port Moresby. Your group will fly into a town called Popondetta on the northern coast of PNG. From there we will drive to Kokoda along a dirt road for 2.5 hours where the trek begins. From Kokoda it will take you and your group between 6 and 9 days to walk the Kokoda Track. Average distance traveled is 12-15 kilometers per day. That doesn't sound like much but you will be ascending and descending over a 1000 meters per day up steep and often muddy trails. Your Commission
As the person organising the trip you will receive a 10% commission. This commission is 10% of the expedition cost. For example if you take the 11 day Kokoda trek you will receive $398 per person. For a Private Trip of 10 people that's nearly $4000 for just organising the trip.
On top of this if you organise 14 full paying clients you will receive commission on 14 people PLUS a FREE OF CHARGE trip for yourself (excluding flights to and from Port Moresby) |
Maximising Your Revenue
While our commission is generous, you can also maximise your revenue by putting together special training packages. For example, many PT's will put together a special 4 or 5 month program that includes extra sessions and weekend day walks. These packages are on top of their normal training package.
The best way to do this is to combine the training package with the trip into 1 trip cost. The benefits are great for your clients. We can even add flights and insurance that you can package up as well. Your client doesn't need to go anywhere else to make this happen. Combined with your commission this can easily total an extra $10,000 in revenue to your business. |
How To Promote Kokoda
There are many ways you can promote the Kokoda Trek. The first and simplest way is to tell all your clients and we can provide you with images and text that you can use on your website or on a poster or flyer that will promote the trip. Other ways include various areas of social media marketing such as Instagram or Facebook (this is a great way to promote to people). Another way to build excitement is to host an information night. If you have many interested people we can send an experienced guide to come along to the information night to support you and to answer all your questions. Once you have done the Track once you will have the answer to many of these questions yourself.
