No Roads Health - Sep 17 Coastal Expedition - Al Grasby

Our Team – Al, Angela Smith, Anne Zandegu, Leanne Boyd, Lyn Stewart, Monica Wallace, Pauline Macleod, Roger Grose, Roslyn Kennedy, Sue Wilson, Sue Grasby.

Monday 11/9/17 – Our team fly to Popondetta and we return CFF patient Koko to his dad. A quick stop for supplies and then we load our 4x4 and navigate the Burma Track.

Tuesday – After our morning swim and breakfast we set up the Buna clinic with CHW’s Rodney, Colin and Ottoman. Patients attend all day and the medical team work hard before a late dinner and much needed sleep.

Wednesday –We travel back to Popondetta for shopping and a hospital visit with the CEO which proved to be a very emotional experience for all. We fly to Tufi and have a quick stop at Tufi Resort before our boat transfer to Komoa Beach Guest House.

Thursday – All day Tufi clinic with Sister Bona, James and Nixon. The NRH hospital is proudly inspected with the local stakeholders. It is a wonderful facility utilised by our team. A boat transfer to Baga ends another busy day.
Friday – Baga morning clinic and Tainabuna afternoon clinic. School tour, and time to watch the school sports including the coconut peeling relay race. Presentation of education supplies, and treating a large number of school children are highlights.

Saturday – Boat to Jebo and treating numerous child patients. Trek to Orotoba Village clinic where we treat many patients and spoil our favourite girl Carmel.

Sunday –Boat transfer and short trek to Sefoa Village for a busy clinic. Return to Tufi Resort for our celebration dinner and certificate presentation.

A highly successful Expedition due to the fantastic, hard-working team members who had direct impact on hundreds of Patients and CFF candidates. “Life Changing” “Grateful” “Humbling” are words used by the team in our debrief.

No Roads Health’s reputation amongst the communities continues to grow. Trust, goodwill, respect and gratitude by the local health workers and villagers is extremely rewarding. Well done Aussie Angels!
