Coastal Expedition - 13th – 20th March 2017
Monday 13/3/17 – Our team flys to Popondetta and 4x4’s to Buna. We return CFF patient, Eddie, to his family.
Tuesday – Buna clinic with CHW’s Rodney, Colin and Ottoman. Patients attend all day and the medical and Monash team work hard before enjoying a swim, dinner and much needed sleep.
Wednesday –Buna to Popondetta for shopping and hospital visit. Tufi Flight and Eric (PNG ABC) joins us for boat transfer to Komoa Beach.
Thursday – All day Tufi clinic with Sister Bona, James and Nixon. The under construction NRH Centre is inspected with local stakeholders before boat transfer to Baga Village. Night call for help re a difficult birth – welcome another NRH baby Crissie-Kath.
Friday – Baga morning clinic and Tainabuna afternoon clinic. School tour, presentation of education supplies, and Hokey Pokey are highlights. Eric departs.
Saturday – Boat to Jebo and a busy all day clinic. Small team treks to Orotoba Village clinic. Our last swim and sleep in the beautiful jungle village by the sea.
Sunday –Boat transfer and short trek to Sefoa Village for a busy clinic. Last boat to Tufi Resort for our celebration dinner. Assistance for Tufi health staff overnight with a 17 year old girl suffering from crocodile bite wounds to her legs.
A highly successful Expedition due to the fantastic, hard-working team members who had direct impact on 626 Patients and 3 CFF candidates. “Life Changing” “Unbelievable” “Humbling” are words used by the team in our debrief.
No Roads Health’s reputation amongst the communities grows. Trust, goodwill, and respect by the local health workers and villagers is extremely rewarding.
Our logistical support for CFF has blossomed, our new partnership with Monash University has hatched, What’s next ??
