In November 2016 the we returned to Buna & Tufi on the second of our NR2H Coastal Expeditions. All in all we saw in excess of 400 people who have had limited or no access to health care and supported the immunisation of village children and two of our team aided in the delivery of a baby under torchlight in the village. We returned Koko and Edward to their families after surgery and brough Itoro back to Australia for surgery in 2016. We also identified a number of other children who require our help and we will be working closely with the Children First Foundation to see which of these we can help.
Another part of this trip was to identify how we could provide a better water supply to some of the villages and the health clinic. We will be working closely with Water Aid to nail this in 2016. I have been asked to facilitate a meeting of the heads of the 20 wards in the district in early 2016 with an aim to set up a Health Committee and train 2 village health volunteers per ward in 2016 - a huge project but an essential one if we wish for a long term improvement in health care of the local village people. To all who made this trip possible - we are so indebted to you.
