"Into The Quiet"
Sometimes people take heed of advice off our web site and/or delivered by the Australian Guide in our extended introduction to the Track. Fortunately Tim was in this category and he was well prepared to undertake the trek even though his luggage had decided against relocating to PNG!! Always bring in your carry-on, the essentials to completing the trip! Downside was that after the brilliant admin staff at NoRoads HQ found the lost luggage, got it to Jack who then got it to Kokoda where John Ruben ran it (literally) to Templetons 2 - the sweep on delivery time was a lot of fun – there was also all the gear he was taking to Cairns for the post Trek relax of a week!
And that was about it for drama….. Yay! PNG, as the say….. ‘expect the unexpected’

Our comfortable little group of five, Geoff, Sue, Tim, Dianne & Ben, enjoyed a VERY quiet crossing; with the pick of campsites, no delayed river crossings, lots of goodies to purchase at the trackside stalls and eight days of weather that was just ideal.
Geoff had the porter team, the kids of the track and the odd rooster or two totally enthralled with his mouth organ, ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ making a resurgence in the PNG top 100.
Ben had us all ‘frothing’ at the amazing stuff we saw and experienced although Tim was reluctant to get past the ‘foaming’ level; trying to teach hip lingo to parents of pre-teens, what a chore
Sue attacked the track with the determination she has attacked life with, and for a lady pushing 70, was truly an inspiration for the rest of us.

Tim kept dad, Geoff, under control, which is a big ask at the best of times, but Geoff’s enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge about all things ‘Kokoda Track’ was a pure joy to behold. It also provided great moments like where a 5 minute intensive conversation was conducted in English with a porter who cannot speak it, while the second party is practically deaf and can’t hear it. No barriers to cross cultural exchange here.
And Di who brought them all together, unifying the team against the guide in that wonderful free for all banter that makes the track as much fun as it is a place of much reflection (and if you don’t believe someone as nice as Di could pick on AJ, just check out the ‘arch’ photo – that boot was pressing in hard!!). But for fashion statements, look no further the creek crossing outfit!
So many amazing life stories and experiences, so much interaction with the porter team, so much fun with the kids (who doesn’t love 10 minutes of ‘hokey pokey’ and the odd dislocated shoulder) and so much emotion as we shared the Track, that is EXACTLY what this life changing/enhancing adventure holiday is all about! Well done team!!
PS: Thanks to Dianne for the photos.
