Kokoda College and No Roads Health

4/7/2016

Comments

A GREAT MILESTONE - We have been working with The KTF (Kokoda Track Foundation) over the years to support the development of The Kokoda College where Health Care Workers and Teachers could be trained close to their villages. Today Dan Hogarth and Nick Youings from No Roads - Health fly to PNG and on to Kokoda where they will conduct, on behalf of the KTF, an entry level first aid course for prospective Community Health Care Workers. 20+ participants have been nominated to to take part (5 sponsored by the No Roads Expeditions Foundation). This is the next step to providing a sustainable solution to the lack of health care in these villages. Travel safe Dan & Nick - we a super proud of you.

Trek 4 Education Kokoda - School Desk Donations

3/7/2016

Seeking Donations for School Desks in Kagi
Two years ago Trek 4 Education Kokoda (T4EK) raised $9000.00 and delivered educational supplies and learning aids to 5 schools, Port Moresby, Alola, Kagi, Efogi and Menari. This year T4EK are heading back to help the schools again, just because the villages are in hard to get to places does not mean the children cannot have an education.

This year our target was $9000.00, so far we have raised $10,200.00, however we have decided to supply the schools in and around Kagi with school desks and chairs. To purchase and deliver 40 double desks we need at least another $3500.00, the company with the helicopter is provided the airlift at cost, and the company supplying the desks have provided a generous discount, so there is not more room to move on those.

If anyone knows of any companies or organisations or individuals that could help us it would be greatly appreciated. Our trekking team will be spending their free day in Kagi to help assemble the desks and will also be carrying in smaller items such as pencils etc.

Hydration Bladder - Tips for Cleaning

5/6/2016

Comments

I love my hydration bladders (I have a few of them different sizes) but I hate cleaning them. My hydration bladders have the wide tops that open fully so getting inside them is pretty easy to begin cleaning, but then their are the hoses, bite valves and so. Is there an easy way to clean them?

It turns out discipline in drying the bladder, and a quick clean straight after use are probably the best strategy. A lot of advice is available on the web including a wide range of views about the use of baking soda, white vinegar, and cool drying contraptions. Check some links and videos out in this article. Always check with your manufacturer for specific advice.

What are your hints and tips, success stories? Comment below and share your advice.
