Expedition Guides

The No Roads Expeditions team is made up of an eclectic group of guides all hand picked for Kokoda expeditions.

Why Guides Matter

Peter Miller, Managing Director of No Roads Expeditions explains the importance of a guide. How a guide can turn a good trip into a great trip and without one you are only seeing a fraction of Kokoda and other places.

Passion can be felt through person to person contact. Stories come alive! A guide book cannot provoke emotion and feeling, only a guide can do that.

Australian  - Expedition Guide  Team

The No Roads Expeditions team is made up of an eclectic group of guides. Whilst the PNG Operations Team are full time employees many of our Australian Guides are Police Officers, Ambulance Officers, State Emergency Service Officers, Emergency Managers, ex Defence Force members, Risk Managers, Fire Fighters and Outdoor Ed Teachers. They all have excellent emergency management skills, first aid qualifications, excellent knowledge of the Kokoda Track and understand the needs of our trekkers.

No Roads Expeditions Australian Guide Team

Papua New Guinea - Local Guide Team

On each Kokoda expedition you will find the structure of the expedition team is very similar. The expedition is generally led by an expedition guide from Australia. However we also offer locally led treks where the expedition leader is one of our highly trained local PNG staff.

In all Australian-led treks, the expedition guide is assisted by a Local Guide (see below) who is one of our PNG staff that is our local expert, manages the PNG guide team and acts as the link between the expedition guide and the locals. The local guide lives on the Kokoda Track and has excellent knowledge of the day-to-day happenings along the track, and has links with the villages and the Kokoda Track Authority Rangers that patrol the track.
